Diagnosis
Working in concert with the latest groundbreaking research, ANDI will devise and adapt the newest, most effective methods to diagnose and treat ASD patients across different gender and age groups. These new tests will help doctors and clinicians understand the extent of a neurodevelopmental disorder and how the brain responds and adapts.
Individualized Care and New Therapies
Each case of autism is unique, and all aspects of ANDI’s clinical care are designed to provide treatments and therapies that meet both current, evidence-based best-practices and the needs of each individual patient and his/her family. Moreover, ANDI utilizes top-notch research and technology—from robots to neuroimaging to precision medicine approaches— to determine which interventions will likely be effective for each specific patient.
Treating Women and Girls
The institute is working to develop more effective interventions, treatments and policies specifically focused on supporting women and girls with autism. In addition to being a traditionally underserved and under-researched group, women and girls also exhibit unique combinations of ASD symptoms, which may require new and innovative kinds of treatments, particularly for anxiety and regulating emotions. By focusing its unique expertise on the characteristics commonly exhibited by women and girls with ASD, the institute seeks to be a leader in providing care in this specialized field.
Transition to Adulthood
While diagnosis and treatments in early childhood are important to improve outcomes, ANDI recognizes that there are opportunities to better the lives of individuals at all life stages. The latest cognitive neuroscience results indicate that adolescence is a time of tremendous brain reorganization and plasticity. Adolescents and young adults would benefit greatly from specialized educational and skill development opportunities, yet few resources are dedicated to these groups. Therefore, the institute will foster development of transitional services and resources to support individuals as they transition to adolescence and adulthood.
